Della's Recycled Humor Contains The Seeds Of A Classic...Or Two
My name is Della D'Angelo, and I love recycled humor like a man should love his mother. What good is a brand new joke the first time you hear it? If it is ANY good, it improves with age. Unlike my first husband, but that is another story entirely.
Fortunately, Charlie (husband number two and the love of my life) and I agree about recycled humor. As it stands, we agree about any number of things, including a sense of relief when the aforementioned husband #1 took a job in Thailand and left the United States.
But I digress.
The following poem was actually written by Charlie, despite the copyright being in my name. (Which was his idea.) If you like it and think it has the potential to become recycled humor for the ages, please let poetic-humor.com know; they'll pass the word on to us.

Marriage Made In Heaven

I'd been married several times
I sort of lost the count
Sometimes you block things even though you do believe
When I met my darling Della
I was kind of down and out
But I had a bit of recycling up my sleeve
See, my job is at a foundry
And though I had lost my teeth
I'd kept the gold from fillings A to Z
There was just enough when I mixed it
With a bit of cheaper stuff
To cast gold bands for both Della and me
Then I took that Yogo sapphire
Willed to me by Aunt Joan
And set it in the band for Della's ring
Of course I had to sell my honey
On the idea that diamonds were passe
While the sapphire was the ultimate in bling
I knew I'd found my Soul mate
When my darling showed me how
Her dress was made from an old silk parachute
The alternating panels
Of brilliant orange and white
Set off the recycled footballs that built my boots
Now we live in bargain housing
Composed of twenty thousand old tin cans
Put together with a flea market soldering tool
We're happy as two fleas setting up house
On a long haired Lhasa Apso Dog
Though in a hailstorm the rain on the roof...
Isn't really all that cool
Publisher's note: Whether or not Marriage Made In Heaven will establish itself over time as a recycled humor favorite, who knows? It might! Either way, one thing IS clear: If those two can love each other in the middle of a hailstorm on a tin roof, they DO belong together.
