Tom Stone saw plenty of little big pig humor last summer

When Tom's wife, Janet, came home from the County Fair with a baby miniature pig, little big pig humor began showing its face quickly and repeatedly. We all know that dynamite comes in small packages, and Jumbo (for so they'd named him) was no exception to the rule.

The Stones run a hog farm with several hundred hogs living on the place at any point in time. Tiny or not, Jumbo was drawn to his larger cousins from Day One. Supposedly a house dweller, leaving the residence only on a leash or in Janet's arms, he quickly demonstrated he did not care for those particular limitations.

Little Big Pig humor was about to strike.

Little Big Pig
Copyright 2007 by Tim Stone

Jumbo came to live with us one bright mid-August day
He was about the same size as the cat; we loved to watch them play
Until I heard my honey loudly shouting out my name
She said Jumbo's run away, sweetheart, and I'm the one to blame

I know because I found a single bristle on the floor
Right where he slipped on through and made it out the front cat door
We asked Jadoo the kitty where her buddy might have gone
But Jadoo just acted unaware of what was going on
So finally we went hunting everywhere upon the place
Each trying to put an air of unconcern upon each face
Then as we figured just where he'd been and what he'd done
We quit worrying and giggled at the way he'd had his fun

The watchdog on her chain had pushed her food bowls out of reach
Tracks showed Jumbo took just a bite or two from each
Before he pushed them both back where Lassie once again could reach her stuff
They'd snuggled for a while before young Jumbo got back up

His next stop at the horse corral had let him rub his hide
Against a cedar fence post while the mares all sniffed the little guy
But his boldest move by far came when he made it to the sty
Where two hundred pigs chowed down and rolled in mud up to their eyes

We saw this from a distance as we were slowly closing in
Not making any sudden moves to get him moving on again
We probably did not need to worry as it was coming clear
One thing this mini-pig ignored was any part of fear

By the time we got up to him and saw him there at rest
He was mud from head to toe, sleeping on his little chest
I swear when Janet called him, just before he came to her
He told the bigger pigs goodbye but promised to return

He's small enough a predator could have him for a snack
But to this day that little warrior roams to the sty and back
He's known to every animal no matter where he be
Little Big Pig is his title and he wears it accurately

Writer's note: I have a small confession to make. When he first arrived, Jumbo the mini pig was not my favorite creature. Both Jadoo my cat and Janet my wife seemed to like the pig better than they did me, and I was a little jealous. In fact, Little Big Pig humor seemed to be at my expense. After seeing him in action with the other farm animals, however, I changed my mind.

The little guy is a constant example of fearless, four-legged Little Big Pig humor filled with love for all. What's not to love about that? Besides, Janet told me I was being silly, and I admit it.

Jadoo the cat? She still likes Jumbo better. Fickle feline.

Thanks for letting me share,

Tim Stone

Publisher's note: Janet Stone thinks we ought to consider a page or two featuring Pet Jealousy Humor. I'm not sure that's particularly funny...but then I wasn't laughing at Little Big Pig humor at first, either.

In case you're wondering, Little Big Pig humor has now become a code phrase in our household. It refers to a small animal making us chuckle in appreciative amazement at its accomplishments. Like becoming buddies with the horses, for instance.

If you DO think Pet Jealousy could be humorous, feel free to click on Return To Publish Your Humor and drop us a note or a poem on topic. If it's funny (and clean, of course), we'll gladly publish it.

Thanks for reading,

Fred
